From an abandoned mountain fortress, you lead a group of Norwegian volunteers fighting numerically superior German forces at the beginning of World War II. Halls of Hegra is a single-player game in the same vein as Robinson Crusoe, This War of Mine, and Dead of Winter. The game's mechanics consist of worker placement, bag-building, and area control/tower defense.

You play as the commander of the Norwegian forces through the game's three phases:

Mobilization - Explore the fortress while battling through snowdrifts and broken equipment. Recruit new soldiers and plan supply routes for the upcoming siege.
First Attack - Defend the village below the fortress while making the final preparations for the siege. Send out patrols behind enemy lines to secure supplies.
The Siege - The siege of Hegra Fortress begins. Withstand constant bombings and infantry attacks while keeping morale high among your men. Will you survive?
