Welcome to the Northern Wilderness, a place where nature is still unexplored, mysterious, and dangerous. When humans first arrived, they believed they had found an untouched paradise, filled with lush forests, lakes teeming with fish, and cold fresh water flowing down from the mountains. But as their settlements grew and the surrounding forests thinned, nature resisted. Large creatures known as Beasts appeared, and with their claws, jaws, and mystical powers, they posed an incredible threat to humans. To protect the settlements, humans hired specialized hunters, whose task was to track and kill the Beasts before too many of their kin lost their lives.

The Beast uses a deck of directional cards to move through forests, swamps, and caves, using cunning and deceit to conceal its journey from the hunters. But when a hunter moves across a location where the Beast has previously been, a trail forms. Only when a hunter searches a location or when the Beast itself attacks an unsuspecting target is the Beast's actual position revealed. Furthermore, each hunter only has one chance to search each round, making it a tense and difficult decision. Hunters rarely have full information about whether the trail they are following contains the Beast's actual position, or if the trail has already gone cold.

Every action you perform in this game is done by playing a card from your hand (maximum two cards per turn). This means that if a player wants to search, attack, or move, they must have a card in their hand that allows them to do so. Before each round, both hunters and the Beast participate in a draft for the most important cards. All action cards can be used by both the Beast and the hunters.

To win this game, you must either cooperate all the way if you are playing as hunters, or skillfully outwit your opponents if you are playing as the Beast. On their own, hunters are never stronger than the Beast. Only when hunters communicate, plan, and coordinate their actions can they fell the Beast before it's too late.
