In Faraway, you play a row of 8 cards in front of you, from left to right. These cards represent the regions you will encounter during your journey. Characters on these cards will give you points if you meet their requirements. At the end of the game, you go back the same way, scoring the cards in reverse order. This is where the heart of the game lies. During the game, the cards you play serve both to set new goals and to fulfill the goals you played earlier.

Each turn, you play a card from a hand of 3 cards. Then you pick a new card from an open row. Since the game in Faraway is simultaneous, you must consider a clever priority system in all your choices – being last to choose a card gives you fewer and often less profitable choices for future turns.
