In a Production Action, you compare the total energy value you have produced with the contract's value when fulfilling a contract. If the produced energy exceeds the contract's value, you advance your marker on the energy track by the excess value, representing the "extra" energy you have generated. At the end of each round, you check your position on the energy track. If you have reached the lower limit for the current round, you move your marker back to this limit. Otherwise, your marker stays where it is. These rules require you to strategically balance your energy production and contract fulfillment to maximize your points.
