The kingdom is shattered, the cities are divided, and the people distrust each other. The newly crowned ruler, El Cascadero, strives to reunite the land, but he cannot do it alone. Therefore, he appoints four ministers to visit the people and restore civil harmony. The ministers have different areas of responsibility: Agriculture, Crafts, Mining, and Markets. El Cascadero also records the ministers' successes in his book.
Cascadero is the latest epic tile-laying strategy game from acclaimed designer Reiner Knizia. Ministers visit cities by placing their envoys adjacent to them. However, cities distrust individual envoys, so new envoys only trigger scoring when they are part of an established group or carry an official seal from El Cascadero. Cities with royal messengers or a history of envoy visits are even more valuable.
Players must choose between two strategies: building long chains of their envoys to achieve synergies and goals, or creating smaller, separate groups to trigger scoring at the right time. By triggering scoring, you can advance along the city's corresponding success column and gain bonuses. Through careful timing and clever plans, players can trigger a cascade of exciting bonuses that turn the game in their favor.
Cascadero offers great replayability through player interaction, varying board and tile sets, and an advanced player mode with a traveling herald. The game ends when a player reaches fifty points or when a player needs to place a tile but has no tiles left. Players who reach the end of their success column qualify for victory, and the one with the most points wins.
