Weimar: The Fight for Democracy takes place in a Germany in turmoil on November 9, 1918, where the German monarchy falls, and the first German democracy is born. The game focuses on the major actors within the spectrum of the new Republic. The Social Democrats and Conservatives are trying to defend democracy, while the Communists and Nationalists aim to overthrow the government and install their own regimes. Will this infant Republic survive? Or will Germany — as in history — fall to the Nazis and become a lawless state? Or will there be a Union of Socialist German Republics?

Weimar features two major "battlefields": In public opinion, parties struggle to influence important political issues like the economy, the media, and foreign affairs. Winning these issues scores points and allows them to make significant decisions. At the same time, parties attempt to control the streets, positioning their followers in major German cities for demonstrations, street fights, and paramilitary actions.

Weimar is a tense and exciting card-driven game (CDG) on a most fascinating topic. Cards can be played for events, for public opinion, or for actions in the streets.

In each of the six game turns, parties play one agenda that defines their strategy for the turn (e.g., modifying their twelve-card play deck, defining issues, gaining advantages in the streets). The goals of the parties are asymmetrical and contradictory. While the democratic parties score for stabilizing the state and reducing poverty, the non-democratic parties score for coups and unrest.
