You dream you are in a chapel. Small, shrill voices sing an old song. Yet, a feeling of unease washes over you. The core is more macabre. The dream gives way to a confused awakening. Dust, bones, and dried death. A flickering torch. Underground. A crypt.
You feel a faint breeze, heavy with the stench of decay. You gag. Yet, the breeze hints at a way out. You take the torch, determined to get out of this alive.
Structured as a branching narrative, What Lies Beneath invites you to control the plot – but only if you master a unique combination of game mechanics. Experience all the challenges of solo role-playing:
Strengthen your character: Acquire items that unlock new powers.
Classic skill checks: Roll against thresholds to hit enemies.
Intellectual puzzles: Manipulate dice with limited actions.
Skill test (optional): Roll dice against specified targets.
And when (not if) you die, you can use experience points to strengthen your next character. Perhaps you'll survive this time.
