Welcome to the Moon uses the same flip-and-write mechanics as the previous game Welcome To..., but now you can play a campaign across eight adventure sheets. During a turn, you flip cards from three piles to create three different combinations of a spaceship number and a corresponding action. All players then choose one of these three combinations. You use the number to fill in a space in a zone on your adventure sheet in numerical order, and everyone competes to be the first to complete shared missions.

The eight adventure sheets have very different mechanisms compared to the classic concept of Welcome To..., and when you play in campaign mode, you will make choices that affect the next adventure, meaning each campaign will differ from the previous one.
