Weimar: The Fight for Democracy is set in Germany in upheaval on November 9, 1918, where the German monarchy falls and the first German democracy is born. The game is about the major players in the new republic's spectrum. Social Democrats and conservatives try to defend democracy, while communists and nationalists want to overthrow the government and introduce their own regimes. Will this young republic survive? Or will Germany - as in history - fall into the hands of the Nazis and become a lawless state? Or perhaps we will see a Union of Socialist German Republics?
Weimar contains two main "battlefields": In public opinion, the parties struggle to influence important political issues such as economy, media and foreign affairs. Winning these issues gives points and enables significant decisions. At the same time, the parties try to control the streets and position their supporters in the largest cities in Germany for demonstrations, street fights and paramilitary actions.
Weimar is an intense and exciting card-driven game (CDG) on a very interesting topic. Cards can be played to affect events, public opinion, or for actions on the street.
During each game round, the parties play an agenda that defines their strategy for the round (e.g. modifying their twelve-card deck, defining issues, or gaining advantages on the street). The parties' goals are asymmetric and contradictory. While the democratic parties score points for stabilizing the state and reducing poverty, the non-democratic parties score points for coups and unrest.
