In the card game Race for the Galaxy, players build galactic civilizations by playing game cards that represent worlds or technological and social advancements. Some worlds allow players to produce goods, which can later be consumed to draw more cards or gain victory points when appropriate technologies are available. These technologies are primarily provided by developments and non-producing worlds, but the more advanced production worlds also provide these bonuses.

At the start of each round, players secretly choose one of the seven roles corresponding to the phases of the round. By choosing a role, players activate that phase for the round, allowing all players to perform that phase's action. For example, if a player chooses to settle, each player can settle one of the planets from their hand. However, the player who chose the role receives a bonus that applies only to them. Bonuses can also be gained through developments, so pay attention to when another player benefits from your choice.
