In "Kingdom Builder", players create their own kingdoms by skillfully building their settlements and aiming to earn the most gold at the end of the game. The game board consists of nine different types of terrain, including locations and castles. During their turn, a player plays their terrain card and builds three settlements on three hexagons of that type. If possible, a new settlement must be built adjacent to one of the player's existing settlements.

By building next to a location, the player can take an extra action token that can be used from the next turn. These extra actions allow for extraordinary moves, such as relocating their settlements. Building near a castle provides the player with gold at the end of the game, but most gold is earned by fulfilling the conditions on the three Kingdom Builder cards. These three cards (out of a total of ten in the game) specify the conditions for earning the coveted gold, such as earning gold for settlements built next to water hexagons or having the most settlements in a sector of the game board.

Each game session uses a random set of Kingdom Builder cards (3 out of 10), special actions (4 out of 8), and terrain sectors to build the map (4 out of 8), ensuring that no two games are alike!
