Catan - Starfarers (Sv)

Twenty years ago, settlers ventured into the depths of the galaxy to discover unknown planets and an undiscovered universe before them. Perhaps they will find planets with abundant ore or coal deposits — or perhaps just barren ice planets. They may encounter alien peoples and start lucrative trade collaborations, while pirates and wormholes constantly pose a challenge.
Catan: Starfarers is a new version of Starfarers of Catan, originally released in 1999, which includes completely redesigned graphics and game materials, revised rules, and (most importantly) a variable game board that adds even more variety to the exploration of space.
Changes to the game mechanics include:
Lagging Player Cards: If you are behind in points, you get cards on your turn no matter what you roll. Two random cards initially, then one, and eventually none as your points increase. This is a nice touch. No matter how unlucky you are, you still get something. Additionally, if a player rolls a seven, they can take a card from another player, but their opponent now draws a random card from the deck.
Market Trading: Since you don't have roads, you no longer need harbors. You can trade with the market for any resource on your turn, provided you have the right cards. The ratios are not bad; any resource for 3:1, meaning three of one for one of any other type. Goods (a type of resource) are traded for 2:1. This, plus no roadblocks, allows you to trade for resources and keep playing.
NPC Races: There are NPC races that can give you advantages, some of them being +1 resources when you get a resource of the same type. But you have to get there early. Now there's a new dynamic to the game; venturing into space becomes a strategy in itself.
Negotiated Trades: Since resources are more readily available, there are fewer negotiated trades. They still exist, and someone can still trade 1:1, 3:1, etc., but it is no longer a singular driving force in the game. Unless you have a big move and are missing that one card.
Resource Management: Collecting resources becomes part of your strategy without being limited to negotiations and dice rolls. This actually works better.
Colonization: You colonize to claim planets in a system. This is the same as building cities in Catan. But how many can be in a system (hex) depends on the number of players. In a three-player game, only two colonies per system are allowed. In a four-player game, each system can accommodate up to three players' colonies. If you are blocked early from the nearest systems, reach further out into the stars to other systems. Who knows, you might encounter pirates and have to fight, or traders, maybe a race of travelers who open a wormhole to anywhere on the map.

sold over 25 million copies worldwide.
An alien island has been discovered – Catan!
As the first settlers, it is the players'
task to build villages and roads. The island is
rich in raw materials and trade flourishes –
soon the villages have grown into well-established
trading cities. The supply of raw materials
varies but through tactical trading with
other players and strategic use
of roads and cities, new opportunities are constantly created
to gain an advantage.
The island quickly becomes crowded, and it becomes
an intense struggle for raw materials, wealth,
and power.
