In Spectacular, you create and develop your own zoo for vulnerable species. To preserve the species, you must ensure breeding within each habitat.
During the game, you choose animal tiles and dice, where the dice represent food for the animals. The color of the die must match the habitat color on the animal tiles. Each turn requires important decisions where you must consider whether to choose a die with a certain value or secure an animal tile that may not be available again.
At the end of the game, for each area of contiguous tiles of the same habitat, you score points for the sum of your dice of that color. However, points are only awarded if die values 1 or 2 are placed on certain "family" tiles within the habitat! During the game, you will also build observation towers, which score points for all three dice adjacent to them. To make your park even more spectacular, you also strive to collect as many different species as possible, with increasing points for greater diversity. Finally, the player with the most points wins the game.
After a few games, you can challenge yourself by playing with three (out of 18) mission tiles. While they offer the possibility of higher scores, they also increase the difficulty of the puzzle.
Spectacular offers simultaneous play and ensures interaction between players, as your opponents' decisions affect which tiles and dice are available to you. The game also comes with asymmetric player boards (on the back).
Spectacular has simple rules, quick setup, short playing time, engaging puzzles, and can be played by 1 to 6 players with minimal waiting time, even with more players.
