In Magitoppen, you want to move the wizard's apprentices down the mountain so they stay ahead of the witches, but the will-o'-the-wisps can make the pieces move unpredictably.
To get started, place columns to raise the game board's start from the table, then place the six apprentices in the back row and the four witches in their starting positions. Add the 5 colored will-o'-the-wisp marbles to the bag.
On a turn, draw a will-o'-the-wisp, then place the marble in the starting position of one of the six channels and release it! If the will-o'-the-wisp hits a figure, it will stop. Move the character it hit to the next open, colored space that matches the color of the will-o'-the-wisp. If you move an apprentice, hurry up because the will-o'-the-wisp can hit the piece again and give you even more moves! But if the will-o'-the-wisp hits a witch, take your time because you want them to chase you as slowly as possible.
If the will-o'-the-wisp does not hit any piece on its journey down the mountain, you must move any witch one step on the track, to the next spot that matches the color.
When all five will-o'-the-wisps have been drawn from the bag, put them back in the bag and start the next round.
If you manage to escape down the mountain with four apprentices before three witches reach the bottom of the mountain, you win! The difficulty of the game can be adjusted by requiring more apprentices or fewer witches to reach the finish line to end the game.
Alternatively, Magitoppen can be played as a competitive game where players divide into teams with the goal of getting their team's pieces down the mountain fastest.
