In Canvas, you step into the role of an artist competing in an art contest. Collect art cards and combine three of them to create your own unique paintings. Each card features a piece of artwork and icons for scoring, which are revealed or hidden depending on how you arrange the cards. The paintings are scored based on a set of scoring cards that vary from game to game. Once a player has created and scored three paintings, the game ends.

On your turn, you can either take an art card from the row in the center of the play area or create a painting. Each art card has a cost associated with its position, which you pay by placing an Inspiration Token on each card to the left of the chosen card. If you don't have enough tokens, you can't choose that card. All tokens on the chosen card are saved for future turns. The leftmost card costs no tokens to take.

When you have three or more art cards, you can choose to create a painting. Select three of your art cards, arrange them in any order, and score them by comparing the visible icons on your painting to the scoring conditions.

When all players have created three paintings, the game ends. The player with the most points wins!
