Each turn, a player can use up to four actions to travel between cities, treat infected populations, discover a cure, or build a research station. A deck of cards grants players these abilities, but this deck also contains Epidemic! cards that accelerate and intensify the diseases' activity. A second, separate deck controls the \"normal\" spread of the infections.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBy taking on a unique role within the team, players must plan their strategy based on their specialist's strengths to defeat the diseases. For example, the Operations Expert can build research stations needed to find cures and which enable greater mobility between cities; the Scientist only needs four cards of a certain disease to cure it instead of the usual five—but diseases spread quickly and time is running out. If one or more diseases spread beyond recovery or if too much time passes, the players all lose.
