In the captivating game of Monolyth, each player gets the chance to become a master of architectural creation, where you build your own unique stone block by strategically placing 3D polyominos. With each colorful piece, you form layers of vibrant colors, complete levels, and create a structure that matches a predetermined pattern. It's not just a game; it's a journey through geometry and strategy, packaged in a world of ancient beauty and mystery.
The game begins with players randomly selecting a structure card, which is placed on the game board along with appropriate structure tokens, level tokens, and prophecy tokens, adapted to the number of players. A crystal token is placed next to the game board, and then twelve random polyominos are placed around the game board in a circle. These polyominos, available in five different colors, form the building blocks of your creation, while all 1x1 blocks of these colors are set aside for special moves.
On your turn, you move the crystal 1-4 steps clockwise and take the polyomino located at that spot to add to your 4x4 player board. There's one rule: nothing can protrude outside the grid, and no part of the polyomino can hang over an empty space. Alternatively, you can choose to remove this polyomino from the game and instead take a 1x1 block of the same color to add to your player board. Either way, the space where the crystal started is refilled with a new polyomino from the box.
You can also choose to take a prophecy token from the game board instead of moving the crystal, and place it next to your player board. This adds a layer of strategy as each player board has four different colors around its edges.
The game continues until someone has completed their 3D monolith, whose size varies with the number of players, after which the round ends. Points from structure tokens, level tokens, and valid prophecy tokens are summed to crown the winner.
