Arboretum is a strategic card game for 2-4 players, ages 10 and up, that combines set collection, tile placement, and hand management. The game takes approximately 25 minutes to play. The goal is to create the most beautiful garden paths and collect the most points at the end of the game.
The deck has 80 cards in ten different colors, each color representing a tree species. Each color has cards numbered 1 to 8. Players start with seven cards in their hand. During their turn, a player draws two cards (from the deck or from any of the discard piles), places one card in their arboretum, and discards one card to their personal discard pile.
Once the deck is exhausted, players compare the cards in their hands to see who can score each color. For each color, the player with the highest value of that color in their hand scores a path of trees in their arboretum that begins and ends with that color. A path is an orthogonally connected chain of cards with increasing values. Each card in a scored path yields one point; if the path consists solely of trees of the color being scored, each card yields two points. If a player does not have the highest value for a color, they score zero points for a path that begins and ends with that color. The player with the most points wins.
