In a 4-5 player game, some role cards are placed in the center of the table. You don't need to have that character in front of you to perform the action, but if someone else claims to be that character and shows the card to prove it, that player performs the action instead while you lose a coin to the tribunal.\u003cbr\u003eSwap cards or not: Take another player's role card along with yours, place them under the table, shuffle them a bit, and give one card back to the other player while keeping one for yourself. You (presumably) know if you've swapped characters and may have an idea of who you are now, but the other player might be in the dark.\u003cbr\u003eSecretly look at your character card: Look at your character card to be sure of who you are.\u003cbr\u003eThe game continues until a player gets 13 coins and wins – or until a player loses all their coins, in which case the player with the most coins wins.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMascarade includes more role cards than the number of players, so not all characters will be used in every game.
